Within the last 5 years in Winnipeg, I’ve gone through the process of buying a new-build three times, each time with a different builder. For the most part, they’re all very similar, and regardless of whom you build with, you will most likely take possession of your house but still have a list of incomplete items that the builder will need to come back and finish. This is the most annoying part of the building process (regardless of which builder) because it can take several months after you’ve taken possession for your new house to be totally finished. Of the three builders that I’ve worked with, I won’t go as far as saying that Discovery Homes was necessarily the best in all aspects of the process of buying a new home, but they were the best in terms of having the least amount of incomplete items at time of possession and being willing to fix things that we weren’t totally satisfied with at the walkthrough. They were also the most responsive builder to requests and concerns during the 1-years warranty period that follows possession. I’ve learned and experienced first-hand that it’s easy for builders to drag their feet and not prioritize you after you’ve already taken possession of (and paid the money for) your new-build, but Discovery Homes responded to any requests and/or resolved concerns in a reasonable amount of time. Sachin and Karan, in particular, were great to work with.
