Kav, Karim, and the team at Goldcon Construction are absolutely amazing. Words really cannot describe how grateful we are to Goldcon - but since this is a Google review, I will try my best to paint a picture of how we worked together.

Doing construction on a new build or a gut renovation is not easy. Despite having done minor renovations on other properties, this was the biggest renovation we had done to date and we were very nervous about spending so much money.

Prior to selecting Goldcon, we had interviewed about 15 contractors. All of them were great sales people, they all sounded like they knew what they were doing, so narrowing it down was difficult. We eventually got it down to 3 companies (Goldcon and 2 others) and signed up to a design document with 1 of them that was not Goldcon.

By the time we had finished the materials list with the other company, we realized that it was already out of date. With supply shortages and limited materials during COVID, it was nearly impossible to get exactly what you want in a reasonable amount of time. This made the quoting process extremely difficult for the 3 companies presenting bids.

Typically in construction the contractors will charge a "Cost Plus" model or a "Fixed Price". For fixed price, you need to have a perfectly crafted scoping document so you know exactly what you are paying for. For "Cost Plus" you are paying a percentage on top of the cost of the project.

Virtually all the contractors wanted to use a Cost Plus Model given all the uncertainties with supplies and labour. I just didn't like this idea because it didn't feel like the contractors would make an effort to negotiate the best price for us.

Goldcon was one of the only contractors that was willing to do a fixed price for the build - but they were concerned that we would need to submit a variety of change orders if the supplies that we had chosen were out of stock. So we decided to settle on a fixed management fee and pay Goldcon in installments that were tied to milestones reached.

As soon as we signed on the dotted lines, they got to work. And they worked fast.

Trades were organized extremely efficiently, one after another.

Multiple quotes were presented to us for each trade and they often were able to get their existing partners to match prices of lower price suppliers.

Design ideas were brought to the table and discussed at length, but very quickly and efficiently.

Communication was effortless, we setup a WhatsApp group and kept a history of all the things we discussed.

When we had a difference of opinion, they always reverted back to "It's your house, you have whatever you like, but we just think XYZ would make the most sense". This was reassuring to us and most of the times we ended up going with their suggestions and it paid off.

At no point in the process did we feel like we were being bullied into doing something or were we uncomfortable with the process.

So overall, there are 100's of reasons to choose Goldcon and ZERO reasons to work with someone else.

If you are looking for a builder for a new house or to do a larger renovation, Goldcon is the only company that I would recommend.
