My husband‘s parents are getting up there in age and we’ve started getting worried about their well-being. They’re very independent and absolutely lovely people, so we really didn’t know what to do because we really enjoy having our privacy and we have our busy schedules with the kids. so we decided to build them a a living space beside our house. After a lot of deliberation, this was the best choice for all of us. I believe they call it an ADU or an accessory dwelling unit I could be wrong. I always wanna call it an additional dwelling. My coworker recommended this company called Sacramento ADU builder and they have been a godsend. I didn’t have to worry about permitting or dealing with the government and all of those headaches. They were able to help design a space that fit my in-laws needs physically so the one story floor plan that they suggested was perfect and my in-laws are so in love with their new space and so am I. It’s been so great having them near to us. I love how they created an open floor plan so there is a continuity and a flow to the house that is very calming. The space feels like a home; Not an apartment. Which I was really impressed with. Originally we had estimated about a year and they ended up making everything happen within six months which is incredible. I cannot recommend them enough if you have a project like this going on you’ll be so satisfied. I know that we are. Between the professionalism, the fact that whenever we had a question they were there in a timely manner to answer it, they instinctively care about doing quality work, and the attention to every detail. You cannot go wrong with them.
We built our ADU as an investment property and after interviewing a number of companies that build ADUs, we decided to work with Sacramento ADU Builders.Their proposal was very detailed and within what we felt was a reasonable budget for the scope of work they proposed. They explained the whole process for the project from design to budget and then on to getting all the necessary permits and finally doing the actual work and gave us a good feel for the timeline. This was an 800 sq ft detached ADU with 1 bedroom & 1 bathroom. We focused on low maintenance as the home will be rented long term. We sought their assistance in choosing materials that will be attractive and easy to upkeep.Construction took roughly 6 months from start to finish. We did have a bit of juggling to the schedule here and there but it was all fairly predictable. The unit rented in less than three weeks of completion, and the tenant is very happy in their new home.As an investment, the project worked out fairly well and we would consider using their services again.
My sister just had a baby and lives in a small apartment in Citrus Heights, while my mother lives alone in a big house in Carmichael that she can no longer keep up with. My concern for both was nightmarish. My solution was to build two ADUs on my Fair Oaks property: one for my mother and one for my sister and the baby. It may sound like a crazy idea, building THREE generations on one lot, but it is a great success. Sacramento ADU Builder took it all on. Our project manager was Teresa, and I have to say, I would never want to be in her shoes, because she had the task of coordinating two separate builds, which I imagine was no trivial task. My mother had the request for everything to be on one level without steps, and with a shower that had a bench. My sister wanted everything to be kid-proof and easy to clean, with room for a crib. Teresa was able to take care of that and keep the requests separate. The builds took just under nine months in total, and the crews did great and were very respectful. Now, my mom has a cottage in the back. She has privacy and a little garden, but she has me close by if she needs anything. My sister and the baby are in the other unit, which means I get to see them every day. We do have dinner together sometimes, but we have enough space to retreat to if we need some quiet. This arrangement isn’t for everyone, but it works for us. Sacramento ADU made it possible, and they really are good at what they do.
We recently had a garage converted into an ADU by Sacramento ADU Builders, and what really stood out to me was how organized they were. Before hiring them, we had met with a few other contractors, but they were all pretty unclear about how long the project would take and how much it would cost. Sacramento ADU Builders was different from the start - they had a clear plan and were very structured in their approach. When we were planning, they showed us different ways to set up the space and explained what would really work with what we already had. We decided on a studio layout that included a full kitchen and bathroom, as well as a small area for a closet. The building process was pretty quick, taking almost 5 months to complete. We had a few small delays, mostly because of scheduling issues with inspections, but that was about it. The team took care of getting all the necessary permits, dealing with inspections, and hooking up utilities, which made things a lot easier for us. They handled all the behind-the-scenes stuff, so we didn't have to worry about it. Overall, the construction process went smoothly, and we were happy with how it all turned out.I really appreciated that they didn't try to sell us on extra stuff we didn't need. When we asked about specific features, they took the time to explain the good and bad points, rather than just trying to make a sale. We're really happy with how everything turned out - the space is clean and functional, and we've already been able to rent it out. The tenant moved in just a couple of weeks after we finished, and so far, they haven't had any complaints. They may not be the most budget-friendly choice, but if having a clear plan and good communication is important to you, then they're definitely worth looking into.
