Black Bird did some carpentry work for us in our kitchen (butcher block countertop) and bathroom (backsplash) and had the place looking like new again. The quote was competitive, the work was efficient and detail-oriented and we were really pleased with how it turned out.
We partnered with Teddy and Alyssa at Blackbird Homes to convert a garage into a master bedroom with bathroom, closet and mudroom. Our expectations were exceeded throughout the process and we’ve been overjoyed with the results. Here are seven reasons for our sky high satisfaction.1. Design consultation: With serious design chops, Alyssa relieved us of analysis paralysis and decision fatigue when it came to making critical decisions on the style of the primary bedroom and bathroom. What I appreciated most about her approach is that she keyed in on our vision for the room when the project started, and not only did she make recommendations based on our vision, but she challenged us to stay true to our vision when there were temptations to deviate away from it. She encouraged us to go bold when it made sense to. And I’m so glad she did. But her recommendations are always budget conscious to boot, so we always felt her guidance was genuine and in our best interests. On the whole, Alyssa took ownership of all the complicated variables involved in deciding design components including but not limited to the bathroom floor tile, the shower tile, the shower floor, vanity, lighting, handles, paint color, floor to ceiling book shelves and so on. Alyssa’s design support is a major differentiator in Blackbird Homes services when compared to other contractors. She has incredible instinct for design and I’m glad we were the beneficiaries of it.2. Excellent communication: Teddy is prompt, transparent, and sets clear expectations for the work to be done. Seldom were there surprises. By and large, we always knew what work was going to accomplished and by when, even when we were out of town for long stretches of time.3. Efficient work: overall Teddy and his crew stuck to the proposed schedule, working deliberately and with urgency, especially around the holidays, so that we can enjoy our home when we needed it most. The few schedule delays we experienced were all reasonable and due to unforeseen circumstances.4. Craftsmanship: Teddy and his crew are incredibly talented all-around, especially as carpenters. Motivated to construct the best quality possible, they added touches that signal their passion for craft. For example, when constructing a built-in bench, they angled the bench at a grade of about 5 degrees so that the bench would be more comfortable for us to sit on. We did not request this. They recommended it because it would be better for us (at no extra cost, btw). There were many more examples like this.5. Attention to detail: Teddy and his crew listened carefully to our needs and concerns. We rarely needed to ask or flag something more than once. Teddy takes excellent notes. He frequently recapped our walkthroughs with a list of action items.6. Cleanliness: Teddy and his crew maintain a very clean and safe workspace, even when space for tools and materials is limited. We were very grateful for the many weekends when they cleaned up their space with extra care, just so we could live more comfortably for those days. They were also consistent in our agreed upon hours, working no later than 3 or 4pm.7. Negotiation: On multiple occasions, Teddy negotiated change orders on our behalf with sub-contractors to get us the best deal possible on unanticipated expenses. This was key to the project’s overall success.Blackbird Homes is the real deal. So we're so glad we partnered with them on this project!
Blackbird Homes did an outstanding job. We remodeled our primary bathroom, powder bathroom and laundry room, and also added built-in cabinetry. They minimized disruption and debris, and were meticulous about clean up. Blackbird Homes was recommended by our design firm, and they did not disappoint. Blackbird is professional, thorough, detail oriented, and a pleasure to work with from Day 1. Teddy’s bid was complete and coordinated. The only cost changes during construction were at our request. We were impressed with Teddy and Joseph’s craftmanship and expertise throughout the project. The Blackbird team uses quality materials, and they do impeccable work.
