It’s hard to put into words what Building Homes for Heroes has done for me — but transformational is a good place to start. From the very beginning, BHH showed a level of care, coordination, and commitment that made me feel seen, respected, and supported not just as a veteran, but as a person navigating the realities of life with a disability. Their partnership with Purple Heart Homes, Owens Corning, and top-tier local contractors like Alfonsi Construction resulted in a life-changing home remodel that has given me back comfort, independence, and pride in my home. What makes BHH stand out isn’t just the impact of the end result — though that’s undeniable. It’s the professionalism, communication, and compassion behind the scenes. People like Rusty Smallwood, Matt Stevenson, and others worked tirelessly in the background, reviewing scopes, approving adjustments, and keeping the project on track, all without ever asking for credit. They helped coordinate a remodel that included a full roof replacement, flooring, ramps, electrical, plumbing, a complete master bath transformation, and more. It’s easy to focus on the final product, but none of it happens without the unsung heroes at BHH—the ones managing the logistics, advocating for the veteran, and clearing the path for others to do their part.To any veteran considering applying for support through BHH: do it. This is not a handout—it’s a hand extended with deep purpose and respect. The experience will require follow-up, patience, and involvement. But if you’re willing to show up and meet the moment with gratitude and a willingness to work with the team, the results can be nothing short of life-changing.Thank you, BHH. You’ve given me so much more than a home improvement—you’ve helped restore the feeling that this house is truly mine.
Building Homes for Heroes is an amazing organization committed to helping our nation's wounded service members by gifting them mortgage free adaptive houses. The veterans can focus on their recovery and rebuilding their lives without the burden of worrying about how they will be able to afford housing. Many of these veterans go on to become pillars of their communities, world champion adaptive athletes, and entrepreneurs. Building Homes for Heroes has gifted nearly 350 homes by the time I am writing this review and they are on track to gift 400 homes by the end of 2024. I don't know where I would be without them and I know that I am able to secure my family's future because of the tremendous gift they have presented me.
