Buyer Beware. Take the negative reviews seriously — they are accurate.Just because a home is not marketed as “high-end” or “luxury” does not excuse poor workmanship, incorrect installation, or a lack of basic construction standards. This home was built in 2021, and the number of issues stemming from subpar construction is unacceptable. These include cracking at ceiling corners, drywall screws protruding through paint, leaks, broken drywall left installed in the basement, and numerous missed fasteners left in place. The most serious issue, however, is the lack of proper insulation and basic planning — the water line to our laundry room freezes whenever temperatures drop just below freezing. In Iowa. That alone speaks volumes about the level of care and expertise involved. In addition, there are widespread cosmetic defects such as poorly installed trim, sloppy caulking, and uneven flooring. These are not minor inconveniences — they are the result of consistent corner-cutting and poor quality control. To make matters worse, whenever we contacted the company about warranty concerns or issues clearly caused by the way the house was built, we were repeatedly told they were “not covered” or “not their problem.”We have also had multiple professionals evaluate these issues, and they have consistently stated that they see these same problems frequently in these homes and that the defects are entirely consistent with the overall construction quality.Buyer beware: If you are considering one of these homes, hire a thorough, independent inspector. This builder clearly prioritizes speed and cost over quality, leaving buyers to deal with the long-term consequences of their workmanship.Edit after response from Jerry: Bad service = bad review.Jerry, you should have helped when I called the first several times — this response is far too late. Despite your public reply, I reached out multiple times and was told you couldn’t assist. I was also told someone would follow up, but no one ever did. Your response here does not reflect the lack of support we actually experienced.
Please do not do business with this builder. We came to within a day of closing, only because we loved the home. I’m sure Jerry’s will respond to this with some argumentative reply like they seem to do to anyone who calls them out. We’ll see.We made Jerry’s a good offer on a home and did everything possible to see this deal through. We ran into several issues along the way such as:1) Extremely rude staff. Mike, head of warranty, was completely unprofessional and rude to my wife and I. When we did our blue tape walkthrough, he was literally following my wife around and telling her what and how to tape. Then, he refused to fix things that clearly needed fixing - most of which got fixed in the end. When we called and complained about Mike, the listing agent said she knew what we were talking about when it comes to him. Which raises the question - why is this guy still interacting with customers? He took a phone call in front of us with his boss and acted like we were the biggest inconvenience - I wish anyone who reads this could see what I mean.2) A baseboard in the living room was bowed. Jerry’s refused to fix it and stated there was nothing they could do. Is that standard quality on a new home? Mike asked me if it was a custom build in a snarky tone, implying that somehow this was acceptable on a $400,000 home because it was not custom…alright.3) The concrete outside on the walkway was already cracking. That speaks for itself. “New”?4) Appliances were installed before closing. The dryer (which has a water connection) was not properly installed and caused a leak for two days. Fortunately, my wife and I were the ones to discover this. Jerry’s was not going to replace the hallway carpet or the OSB flooring which had soaked up water. Only once we said we were backing out of the sale, did they say they’d replace the OSB flooring. This is how they do business.Does this sound like a quality company to you? They treated us this way when we had the leverage…imagine how they would after we bought the home. We’re supposed to trust their warranty when they argued with us so much about fixing other things during the sale? I don’t think so.Go through the other comments and you’ll find others criticizing them for their rudeness and quality. We will never buy a Jerry’s home. Poor craftsmanship, poor customer service. $400,000 brand new homes should meet a standard - theirs do not. Jerry’s completely ruined our home-buying process.Edit 1/10 to Jerry’s reply:Jerry’s could have taken the opportunity to apologize for their extremely rude staff (Mike) in their reply, yet did not. Why? Your listing agent even said that she knows how he treats your customers. I think that you guys should do better. We never felt like customers and that was the first person from your team that we saw and interacted with. That’s okay with you? Alright. Instead of having a chat with this guy, you act we are lying.Additionally, from my understanding, all we did was pay to upgrade the appliances. Jerry’s would have installed washer/dryer anyways, correct? Hence the allowance that we received when purchasing them. The vendor was also your guys’ choice because as they said, they are the only ones allowed inside the home before closing (what we were told.) Anyways, that is not the point. The point is that after the accident occurred, we asked for fixes that would make us feel comfortable following through with this large of a purchase. You all, Jerry’s, refused to replace the OSB until we said we’d back out. If you want the texts, I can post them. Let me know.Instead of admitting some fault and apologizing for the treatment that we received, you reply and defend your “customer service.” Were we truly out liars in how we were treated? If so, taking accountability should not be a big deal. A better plan would to have been to get in touch with us and mend the situation - but it seems that’s not as important.
Jerry’s Homes was amazing to work with! We built a home with them this year and the entire process was great. All of their staff is extremely helpful and the communication with them was very good. We are so pleased and love our Jerry’s home!
Recently purchased a Jerry’s home after touring over 30 homes in the area. Before deciding on our home, we toured a few with Diane and she was easy to connect with very knowledgeable. Jerry’s had a lot of nice homes and we ended up purchasing a Duke. We are just getting settled in, but we are loving our new space.
We just finished building a BTO home with Jerry’s and highly recommend! We had such a great experience with them from start to finish. Their team was so helpful along the way, answering questions, addressing any concerns, and the finished home is GORGEOUS! Jerry’s was the perfect option for us as our budget did not allow for a custom home builder, but we still wanted to find a builder who had some customization options and great, quality finishes without feeling “cookie cutter”. Jerry’s was the perfect fit for us and we are truly so, so happy with our new home!
